hydroGEOPHYSICS, Inc. (HGI) is an innovative, solutions oriented geophysical consulting and service provider to the environmental, engineering, ground water, mining, oil & gas, and natural resource exploration industries. HGI provides subsurface imaging, using geophysical methods, to detect and map targets of interest and we specialize in the application of 3D geophysical methods for time lapse subsurface characterization and monitoring. 

We are looking to expand our Tucson, Arizona, Richland, Washington and-or Irvine California offices by hiring an enthusiastic full-time employee for one or more of the following positions: 1) a Senior Level Engineer, Scientist, Geologist, or Geophysicist, 2) a Junior Level Project Manager (position and level dependent on prior experience). This position requires a minimum of 7+ years of relevant geophysical consulting experience. Proficiency with geophysical equipment, data collection methods, data analysis techniques/software, technical report preparation with emphasis on interpretation are required.

Education: minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental and Earth Related Engineering or science discipline from an accredited university. Degree must include advanced courses in math and physics – transcripts will be required. A master’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental and Earth Related Engineering is strongly encouraged.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years relevant geophysical consulting experience with fieldwork, data collection and analysis; experience with laboratory or scientific instrumentation and industry standard data analysis and visualization software. Prior experience within a consulting company environment is strongly recommended. Prior leadership experience running field survey crews, and directing junior staff will be part of daily duties. Candidate should have strong technical writing skills and be able to generate technical reports with interpretation of geophysical data.
Language: English verbal and written required, bilingual English/Spanish is a significant advantage.

  • Travel: Enjoy travel, remote destinations, working outdoors with complex scientific equipment. Travel is required and will extend nationally within the US and some amount of international travel.
  • License: Current and active driver’s license (experience driving a vehicle / trailer combination strongly preferred)

Geophysical Methods/Analyis: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with theory and analysis of some of the following geophysical techniques: electrical resistivity, electromagnetics, GPR, magnetics, refraction seismics, MASW, reflection seismics,
Visualization Software: Familiar with industry standard visualization software such as: Surfer, Voxler, AutoCAD, Rockworks, Geosoft, Tecplot, EVS, etc.
Analysis Software: Familiar with industry standard data analysis software such as: EarthImager 2D or 3D, Res2DInv or Res3DInv, MatLab, RADAN, Seisimager, Ekko-project, Geosoft Oasis Montaj, Interpex Suite, MagMapper, etc.
Travel: Position requires 35 to 50% travel. Field projects range from two days to two months and requires extensive travel inside and outside the U.S.

Staff Scientist (Geophysics) – West Chester, Pennsylvania

Schnabel Engineering, Inc. is seeking an organized, responsible, personable, motivated, entry-level individual to serve as a full-time staff scientist in our West Chester, Pennsylvania office. Primary responsibilities include duties related to geophysical field investigations. Additional duties may be related to geotechnical, geostructural, wetland or ecological science, and dam engineering projects. It is essential that the candidate be able to work in a collaborative team environment, and must be willing to be cross-trained and learn other roles and responsibilities within the firm. Geophysical duties include conducting shallow-subsurface geophysical field investigations (such as seismic refraction, GPR, EM, resistivity, and other surveys) related to civil engineering projects, as well as assisting Senior Scientists with proposal preparation, basic analysis, writing field investigation reports, and general project management.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in geophysics or geology from an accredited university, with an understanding of geophysical concepts. Applied geophysical experience in a classroom, field camp, lab, or research project is a plus, but is not required. Experience in geophysics for civil engineering projects is desirable, but not required. Good computer skills are required. Skills in AutoCAD and/or GIS are desirable, but not required. Projects require working in various weather and terrain conditions (mostly outdoors). Candidates must be capable of physical labor and lifting associated with field work, and be self-sufficient with minimal supervision from the office. The Department of Earth Science at Rice University is inviting applications for the Wiess Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the broad fields of Earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. awarded within three years of the time of appointment.  The research fellowship will be supported by the Department of Earth Science for two years pending satisfactory progress in their first year. The fellowship covers an annual stipend of $60,000 with a benefits package and an additional annual discretionary research allowance of $3,500.

Applicants are requested to develop a proposal of research to be undertaken during the fellowship period. The principal selection criteria are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed research plan to address questions at the forefront of Earth science, broadly defined. Applicants are encouraged to explore possible research synergies with faculty in the Department of Earth Science (, but the proposed research should encompass independent research ideas and explore new directions beyond the applicant’s Ph.D. Preference will be given to candidates whose proposals demonstrate independence and originality, and also the potential for collaboration with one or more faculty in the Department of Earth Science.

The Branch of Geophysics engages in applied geophysics research and technology-transfer related to groundwater resources. Current research initiatives at the Branch include application of geophysical methods to (1) characterize aquifer systems and properties controlling fluid flow and transport; (2) monitor natural and engineered hydrologic processes; (2) understand groundwater/surface-water interaction; and (4) evaluate potential hydroecologic impacts of climate change. It is anticipated that the postdoc will work on one or more projects related to these topics and engage in fieldwork, data analysis, and publication of results. We are looking for candidates with strong quantitative skills, experience with geophysical forward and inverse modeling, programming ability in two or more computer languages, and experience with field and/or laboratory experiments. Candidates should have experience or course work in electrical and electromagnetic geophysical methods and hydrology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geophysics.


  • Two years of recent professional work experience managing geophysical and/or geological, hydrogeological, geotechnical related investigations;
