Managing Groundwater Storage

AGI invites you to join them on Wednesday July 18 at 1:00pm EDT / 10:00am PDT for our next free Critical Issues Webinar, "Managing Groundwater Storage". This 1 hour AGI Critical Issues webinar will introduce the geoscience of managing groundwater storage and recharge, discuss groundwater storage policies and research in California and Texas, and review case studies and potential developments on the horizon. For more information about the webinar and how to register, please visit https://www.americangeosciences.org/policy-critical-issues/webinars/managing-groundwater-storage.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. We will post a recording of the webinar on the Critical Issues program's website after the event. If you cannot make the webinar but would like to be informed about the recording, please register and you will be notified as soon as the recording is available.

Continuing Education Opportunities:
Certified floodplain managers who check the CFM status box during registration will receive 1 CEC from the Association of State Floodplain Managers. All registrants who have paid for CEUs from the American Institute of Professional Geologists and attend the entire duration of the live webinar will receive 0.1 CEUs from AIPG. Please see the webinar link above for more information.

Reminder:  Digital, Online Only JEEG in 2019

In December of 2017, the EEGS Board of Directors voted to move to offer a digital Journal of Environmental & Engineering Geophysics (JEEG) exclusively.

Beginning with the March, 2019 issue, members and subscribers will access the Journal online only.

JEEG Editor Dale Rucker said this move to the digital production of the JEEG will have a minimal effect on the publication's content.  JEEG's impact factor, a measure of the yearly average number of citations to recent articles, has risen to 1.36 from .73 in 2016.

New Associate Editor Joins the JEEG Editorial Team

JEEG editor Dale Rucker announced that Deqiang Mao, Ph.D., Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Shandong University, China, has joined the Editorial Board as Associate Editor. He earned his PhD degree in Hydrogeology from the University of Arizona and postdoc research experiences in Geophysics in Colorado School of Mines. His major interest is developing state-of-art inversion algorithms to interpret hydrogeophysical data, and applying hydraulic tomography test, electrical resistivity survey, induced polarization measurement and self-potential survey to solve problems in subsurface hydrology. Latest Issue of the JEEG Published

Editor Dale Rucker announced the publication and availability of the June, 2018 issue (Vol. 23.2) of the JEEG.

Call for Papers for the Special Issue on Geophysics for Urban Underground Space Studies in the JEEG

Dear Colleagues:

As the Guest Editors, Profs. Lanbo Liu (UConn) and Rongyi Qian (CUG-Beijing) invite you to submit papers under the theme of "Geophysics for Urban Underground Space Studies" (GUUSS) to be published as a special issue in Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics (JEEG, 2017 Impact Factor:1.52) for its June 2019 issue.

All papers on planning and design, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation pertinent to the development of Urban Underground Space are welcome. All papers presented at the special session on 'Urban Underground Space' sessions of SAGEEP2018 are encouraged to submit, with the expansion and completion with more rigorous description of the development of the algorithm with case study support. Research papers on this topic which did not presented at SAGEEP2018 are also welcome to submit.

The authors can submit their manuscript to http://jeeg.allentrack.net/. The author should state in the cover letter that the manuscript is for the special issue: "Geophysics for Urban Underground Space Studies". All submitted papers will be reviewed by two peers and one of the guest editors to assure high standard set by JEEG. The review process for this special issue is quicker than the regular issues and we expect fast turn-around and the wrap-up by the end of 2018.

The authors should be aware that JEEG charges for color figures ($100 USD per figure), so there should be a statement in the cover letter to make it clear that the authors are willing to pay the color figure fee. Otherwise, grayscale figures are free.

There are two options for publication, both of which are a peer reviewed publication with all of the privileges held by such: A regular research article of at least 3000 words and generally 1-2x figures per 1000 words; and a Near Surface Geophysical Letter (NSGL), a shorter communication that advances emerging research and case studies. We ask that for NSGL, the size be limited to 2000 words and up to 4 figures.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:
The First Submission: August 31, 2018
The Second, Revised Submission: November 30, 2018
Final acceptance date: December 31, 2018.

Dale Rucker, JEEG Editor

SAGEEP 2019 General Chair and
Technical Chair of the Core SAGEEP Sessions Named

Dennis Mills, of Exploration Instruments in Austin, Texas, has been named General Chair of SAGEEP 2019 being held in Portland, Oregon USA March 17-21, 2019. Additionally, Dimitrios Ntarlagiannis of Rutgers University, will serve as Technical Chair for the core SAGEEP sessions.

This year, explained Mills, SAGEEP adds two "sister" conferences, which will run concurrently. Co-sponsor European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE) and EEGS previously announced that the two co-located conferences, "Geohazards" and "Shallow Marine/Coastal Geophysics" will be available to all attendees during the SAGEEP week for a single registration fee.

"With the classic environmental and engineering topics coupled with the specific, focused subjects like Geohazards and Shallow Marine issues, there is plenty of opportunity to include a wide range of subject matter," said Mills. He is also calling for session topic ideas for any of the three areas.  Suggestions can be sent to anyone on the planning committee (click on SAGEEP 2019 for details).

SAGEEP has provided geophysicists, engineers, geoscientists and end-users from around the world an opportunity to meet and discuss near-surface applications of geophysics and recent developments in near-surface geophysics.

SAGEEP is recognized as the leading conference on the practical application of shallow geophysics. Since 1988, the symposium has been held over a 5-day period with approximately 220 oral and poster presentations, short courses, vendor presentations, and a commercial exhibition.
