OPENING SESSION:  AWARDS AND KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

Awards Ceremony:  This event will feature an Awards Ceremony, where the EEGS/Near-Surface Geophysics Technical Section of The Society of Exploration Geophysicists Frank Frischknecht Leadership Award will be presented.

Keynote Presentation:  It’s just a bunch of squiggly lines
Keynote Speaker:  Georgette Hlepas

There are a lot of available tools in our tool boxes to understand the subsurface.  There are some key consideration to ensure the right tools are selected to aid in guiding further investigation efforts.  Upfront communication and setting expectations is critical to the success of any project.  However, the work does not stop there.  The resultant data is not always readily understood by non-geophysicist and is often perceived as “just a bunch of squiggly lines”.  To understand subsurface conditions and make data driven risk informed decisions, there needs to be good communication of the resultant data, often in the form of appropriate visualizations.  This presentation is focused on the use of geophysics, remote sensing, along with other investigation tools to aid in understanding subsurface conditions and the need to manage and visualize the resultant data in geospatial models to help evaluation and communication efforts.

Dr. Georgette Hlepas is the Principal Geotechnical Engineer for the US Army Corps of Engineers and is the lead for the Geotechnical, Geology, and Materials Community of Practice.  She is also the lead for the USACE Instrumentation and Performance Monitoring Community of Practice.   She has ~15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and instrumentation and has worked on a variety of geotechnical projects both nationally and internationally.  She has a PhD in Civil and Materials Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University in New York,  and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois.

Outdoor Demonstration - Benedict Fountain Park
4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Location: 401 E. 20th Avenue; Denver (bounded by 20th Avenue, Tremont Place and 22nd St.)

The EEGS Foundation is a  501(3)c charitable organization), founded in 2007, that encourages the use of geophysical technologies and to aid those who endeavor to learn more about them in order to meet the environmental and engineering challenges of the future. The Foundations programs include:

  • Endowment for SAGEEP
  • Scholarships for Students
  • Travel Grants for Students and Professors
  • Distinguished Regional Lecture Tours
  • Sponsorship for International Conferences and Training Seminars

Woods Boss Brewing Company has transformed an early 1900 brick building into a beautiful brewery and tap room. They strive to create an all-inclusive experience in their tap room providing 24 taps with 20 craft beers brewed in house with a gluten-free option as well as a root beer and kombucha. Food also can be ordered from nearby delivery restaurants and enjoyed at the tap room

Tuesday, March 22

PANEL SESSION - UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES (UAV) at 1:30pm

A panel discussion (detailed description) on the current state of the practice and future developments in the application of small unmanned aerial systems for geophysical characterization of the shallow subsurface also known as the “near surface”.  Following the panel presentations, the audience is expected to participate in a question and answer opportunity - this is your chance to pose questions and hear from the experts.

PANNEL SESSION - Engineering Sustainability and Climate Change at 2:50pm

Experts from government agencies, research institutes, and the private sector discuss impacts of climate change on infrastructure and communities and engineering challenges for sustainability.

GeOpen House @ SAGEEP

The GeOpen House is a special opportunity for the Denver and surrounding geo-community to learn about geophysics, share perspectives, and network across the aisle. Special panels and sessions will explore how geophysics can contribute to environmental and engineering challenges facing society now and in the future. An evening networking reception will provide a fun and inclusive forum for anyone interested in geoscience and engineering, from students to senior professionals.

Evening Geoprofessional Networking Event at 5:00pm

Come make new connections and new friends! Join delegates, exhibitors, and attendees of the GeOpen House for hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and conversation at the Conference Evening Networking Event. With an easy to use mobile app, you will be automatically matched to others attendees with complementary interests from jobs, to mentorship, professional experience, and more. Go to app.speednetworking.com and complete your brief networking profile now using event code NETWORK@SAGEEP22you must have a completed profile and ticket by March 22nd @ 5pm to receive network matching results.

A Note About Health-related Precautions:

We are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable experience for SAGEEP attendees from check-in to check-out. We will be posting new or updated health-related mandates or restrictions that may be adopted by the City and County of Denver or Colorado.  Presently, no restrictions will affect SAGEEP; however, please review the hotel guidelines:

FACE COVERINGS
We ask that you follow all local guidelines and laws with respect to practicing social distancing and wearing a mask in public areas. We will be updating this space and providing signage in the SAGEEP meeting areas communicating the current requirements from local public health and government authorities.

HILTON CLEAN STAY
The hotel has taken additional measures beyond the hotel industry's cleaning standards by partnering with Reckitt, maker of Lysol & Dettol, to develop the Hilton Clean Stay program. This program builds upon the already rigorous Hilton cleaning standards by providing enhanced training for their Team Members, increased cleaning of public areas and adjusted food & beverage service, to ensure a worry-free stay.
